In the last 15 years the explosion of the internet has revolutionized the flow of information. Whatever we want to know is now just a mouse click away. While just 20 years ago people had to sit in libraries to find the information they wanted through reading books, we can now pinpoint the information we want within minutes using the net. Everything you want to know is now available on sources like Wikipedia, lectures are put online on YouTube, books, movies and music is available from both legitimate and illegitimate sources. With the knowledge so available is it possible that the value we have put on it and power it holds have decreased with this revolution?
We are now witnessing we have more accessible information then we have ever had the chance to find out before. Whenever we wonder about something we always have a computer in the near surrounding where we can look up what we are wondering about. We sit online for hours where we get news updates continuously 24 hours a day. But in most instances we don’t remember the information we receive. It used to be a time when people used thousands on buying encyclopedias, now the market for this is almost gone with the same information being available on Wikipedia.
Gaining knowledge does not take any effort any more. Reading several books trying to find the information you are searching for has now been reduced to where you can go on google and search for it, or you can use different databases that you can pinpoint the information we need. This has changed the experience we have of gaining the knowledge we seek.
There are of course obvious benefits of the information revolution, the main being that everyone has the possibility of gaining the information they seek. It is no longer bound by physical and monetary boundaries. But still as we come across so much information we don't appreciate it as we used to. Maybe it is time for us to sit down and take in more of the impressions we get from the knowledge we gain, and try to treasure it more then we do now.

The hysteria about the unknown, the elder generation`s cruscade about video games!
The cultures among the youts of all ages have been seen on as derogatory for the sosiety by the youths of yesterday. in the 50`s the movie Rebel without cause and song rock around the clock along the likes of Elvis was going to tear down thw sosiety. In the 60`s it was the hippies. And as soon as this generation has grown up, they look with the same skepticism about their children social culture as their own parent had on their culture. Movies and music have been the main targets when the youths in some way rebel against their eldest " suppression" as happens in every generatin in some way. And when a terrible incident occurs the reavtion of the elder generation blames it on the culture of the youths. Take the horrible Columbine shooting in 1999 for instance. Somehow it was figured out they listned to Marilyn Manson, and so he was blamed for having inflenced yhe shootings. In recent years we have seen a new media been targets as the worst of the worst when it comes to infence the petty minds of the youth of our day, video games. they are the new thing politicians and other "experts" on the field use to gain attention targeting whenever there has been some form of incident involving youths committing crimes. Like after the Virginia Tech Masacre where Dr. Phill managed to blame video games in an interview with Larry King on CNN.
The debate on the impact on videogames on individuals`s minds reached a new high in 2001 with the introduction of the game Grand Theft Auto 3. In this game, players played a criminal in a large 3D world with a realism level unparalleled in a game before. Politicians and experts had heard a small portion of what one could do in the game and demanded a ban on violent video games; some even went as far as reporting it to their nature of being violent.
Looking at these accusations are they any real legitimate reasoning behind them or are there just someone trying to make cheap political gains. The problem with the politicans or the so called experts on the field are that they are taking about a medium knowledge about. Some have heard something one can possibly do in a game and on that basic call for a ban without having a deeper knowledge of the game industry. There are games that are violent the Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt series are extreme examples of these, and that is the reason they have received an age limit of 18 years. The problem with thw especially Grand Theft Auto is the realism of the game, in the newest version the game, this has been done with extreme care both in terms of graphic and physical laws. This might of course be a factor in smaller children having problems differentiate between the real world and the game world.
However as been stated these games have received age limits to prevent the children from playing these games. then it becomes the responibility of the parents to set the boundaries for their children in what they exposed to. In the same way these bounderies should be set in turns of movies and other media outlets where they receive raw violence, like the news. VG`s gaming editor Rune Fjell Olsen wrote striking blog about this in 2004 where he outlines exactly this, the parents should take more care of what their children are exposed to both in gaming and the media world as a whole.

Cyber world, the world all privacy laws seem to have forgotten
Around the western world the right to privacy is one of the strongest founded human rights. In the US constituion this is based in the very 1st amendment of the bill of right. this is a right carried in the Human rights convention declared by the UN. And most nations have own laws securing their populations privacy. Still within the cyber world the goverments seems to have forgotten about these laws. Private companies have the right to surveillance private peoples IP addresses just on a slight suspiction that there is some illegal activity going on. People`s personal mail online are being watched in some case it might be terrorism. the goverments that are put in place to uphold these rights are the ones bending the laws to allow it to happen.
In Europe we have a new directive from the European Union called the DRD, where member states have to store citizen`s telecommunication history from 6 to 24 months. Also members who are attavhed to the union throgh the European Economic Community have to implement it. Norway is one such contry althoug there is a strong opposition against it as people belive it is a violation of one`s right to privacy.
With the increased industry of piracy of entertainment media there are also the surveillance of what is belived to be perpetrators by private corporatoins. They have also in some countries been allowed to demand the ISP`s to deliver the name of the IP holders, without there ever being authorites involved. in a country like France and the eEngland the government seems more like to encourage the private corporations to infringe on the privacy of individuals by extending rights of these goverments to do their surveillance.
Are these infringements on the individual`s privacy right. With the DRD the goal is to reduce terrorism and crime, to make sure evidence online is not lost. But in the process legal upstanding citizen`s data is also stored. The government and whom ever they grant accsess to will have a clear look into everything that goes online. Private corporations searching for pirates of entertainment online gets to roam freely now in many countries after individuals who thwy just have a suspiction of havung done something illegal. In my opinoin these qestions are qustionable on both a ideological and ethical standpoint. With the goverment letting private corprations infringe freely on individuals privacy, setting the monopoly of violence ( Max Weber`s main characteristic of what can be called a state) in jeopardy. And are we truly willing to give up some of our freedom for the offbeat we might catch some criminal activates? I`ll answer this in word of one of the founding fathers of the U.S.A Benjamin Franklin" Those who would give up essential liberty to purcase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety"

Long time no see...
Like I said, I would try my best with this blog and I`m definity not the best not the best blogger in the world :p So this time i will write in norwegian.
